On my system I never figured out why the driver for my new printer, HP
LaserJet 2100, prints numbers for the apostrophes and quotation marks
(5's and 7's). My old HP LaserJet III driver does not. I think the
problem is Describe's replacement of the usual quotation and apostrophes
with the so-called "smart" quotes (the ones that curve in the right
direction). I think that Describe uses a character replacement that is
now different character on the new drivers.

The problem is font specific. The problem appears when I use the HP's
built in font, CG Times. It is not present for Times Roman font.

My workaround is a Describe macro that searches for CG Times and
apostrophes and/or quotation marks. When it finds that combination, it
changes the font in front of the apostrophe or quotation to Times Roman.

If you like I could send you a copy of the macro.
