The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG)
will be this Saturday, February 17, 2001 at 9:00 AM PST, at our new
meeting location: Regal Lanes in Orange at 1485 N. Tustin Ave.
OS/2 Trouble-shooting
Steven Levine, our very own Mr. Know-It-All, will give us his tips and
techniques for troubleshooting your OS/2 systems. Steven will be
discussing how to keep your Warp system running and what to do when it
doesn't. The basics of software and hardware maintenance and trouble-
shooting will be reviewed along with the tools needed to do the work.
This is an opportunity to learn from one of the best. You won't want
to miss it!
In addition, Paul Lazaga from SohoMax and WTW Group in Los Gatos, CA,
will be joining us. SohoMax (http://www.sohomax.com) offers purchase
of OS/2-compatible hardware at their website, and allows you to search
for it in that way. Paul will spend a few minutes showing us around
the SohoMax site.
After the main meeting presentation, we'll have Q&A, a raffle, and then
the Saturday SIG meetings:
General Interest Group: This month, the time period will be split
between the revived Sundial SIG and the Internet SIG.
The first half will be the revival of the Sundial SIG by new leader
Lynn Maxson. Interested participants should come prepared to suggest
topics for future Sundial SIG meetings.
The Internet SIG will utilize the second half of the General Interest
Group meeting time and will be a continuation of last month's great
discourse on Instant Messaging by Internet SIG leader Dave Watson.
Dave will pick up where he left off last month exploring the different
options for instant messaging on OS/2. He is preparing to demonstrate
a couple of messaging clients and other associated applications. This
should be an exciting presentation not to be missed. For those not
fortunate enough to be at last month's presentation, see the Instant
Messaging article, written by Dave, at the SCOUG website
(http://www.scoug.com/os24u/2001/scoug001.instantmsg.html) to find out
what you missed out on last month.
Programming SIG: Terry Warren will cover TCP/IP basics, including
addressing, routing, and OS/2 tracing and packet formatting capabilities.
Protocols that will be discussed include ICMP, ARP, DHCP, IP, UDP, and
PPP.
Help Desk chats now happen on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM PST. If you've
got a problem with hardware or software, join the chat and ask for help.
For further info, go to http://www.scoug.com/chat/index.html.
Sunday, March 4, 2:30 PM PST meetings at Chapman University, Orange:
OS/2 Help Desk: Got problems with your system? Volunteers at the OS/2
Help Desk will help you solve them. Bring your system and all related
hardware and software, along with a detailed explanation of your problem.
Networking SIG: Will be providing help to members setting up a peer network
and connecting their local LAN to the Internet via a cable modem connection,
DSL connection, or a dial-up connection via an ISP.
How to get to Regal Lanes:
Regal Lanes is located on the east side of N. Tustin Ave., 2 blocks
north of Katella Ave. in the city of Orange, CA. It's at the corner
of Tustin and Van Owen.
From the 55 freeway, exit Katella Ave. heading west. Turn right (north)
at the signal onto Tustin Ave. At the next signal, which is the corner
of Tustin and Van Owen, you will see Regal Lanes on your right-hand
side. It's across the street from the Toyota of Orange auto dealership.
There's lots of parking on the south side of the building. Enter from
the east entrance of the building (farthest from Tustin Ave.), not the
main (front) entrance to the facility. Take the stairs to the 2nd
floor; the meeting rooms (and restrooms) will be on your left-hand side.
Handicapped access is via an elevator by the front door.
OR: Go to http://www.scoug.com/directions.html; there is a map to Regal
Lanes, plus a more detailed map & driving directions from Yahoo!
How to get to Chapman University:
There are two ways to get directions:
1) Go to http://www.scoug.com/warpexpowest/sitemap.html
2) Go to http://www.mapquest.com/ and enter the address 400 N. Center
Street, Orange, CA.
You can park in any of the University lots for free on Sundays, but if
you part on the street, watch the signs carefully or else risk getting
a parking ticket.
Come to Hashinger Hall Science Building, room 203. It's on the second
floor and there's an elevator for you to bring up your equipment.
Come and join us!
